Quorn
www.quorn.co.uk
In the 1960s, there were fears that the world would run out of animal protein.
In response to this, scientists set out to find an alternative protein source.
The discovery was made in the Buckinghamshire countryside, in a field near
Marlow. The brand new protein was part of the fungi family (which includes
mushrooms
and truffles), and was called Mycoprotein after 'myco', the Greek for fungi.
The Marlow Foods Company was created to make use of this discovery and developed
the Quorn brand which incorporated the new ingredient in its all its product
range.
